Five profit leaks worth reviewing before revenue grows

More sales do not automatically create stronger profit. Start with the operating choices that shape what each dollar of revenue retains.

Revenue quality matters

Revenue can rise while cash and margin weaken. Discounting, change requests, service complexity, and unfavorable customer mix can make growth expensive.

Review gross margin by customer, offer, or project—not only in aggregate. The goal is to see which work creates durable contribution after direct effort and delivery costs.

Look for repeated exceptions

One-off concessions often become operating habits. Rush delivery, custom reporting, waived fees, and slow approvals each look small until they repeat across many accounts.

List the exceptions your team makes most often, estimate their cost, and decide which should be priced, standardized, or stopped.

Turn insight into a short operating list

A useful review ends with a small number of owners, deadlines, and measures. Prioritize actions that improve pricing discipline, capacity use, billing speed, or purchasing leverage.

This is general educational information, not accounting, tax, legal, or investment advice.
